Maintenance – Electrician

We are looking for a responsible and reliable candidate to be the lead maintenance person responsible for all electrical areas related to the greenhouse growing, packing and warehouse areas.

Responsibilities:

– This position covers all areas of the farm, growing operations, cogen, packing operations, warehousing and shipping activities.

– Daily inspections of the facilities and completion of any associated forms for inspections.

– Perform preventative maintenance activities required for pack line, irrigation, and greenhouse equipment. Key contact for contractors when technical issues arise.

– Respond to breakdowns and trouble shoot issues in a timely manner to reduce production downtime.

– Attending to system alarms.

– Managing spare part inventory and supplies.

– Maintain warranty requirements for greenhouse related equipment.

– Assist in Cogen operations as required for different operations.

– Perform Health and Safety / Bio Security / Food Safety tasks, logs and assist in annual audits.

– Based on our operation, rotating full weekend coverage will be required for all items.

Qualifications:

– Licensed electrician.

– Hands on experience required.

– Mechanically inclined with a basic understanding of computer programming to troubleshoot.

– Ability to work in a team environment.

Operations Manager

We are looking to expand our team with an Operations Manager to contribute to all areas of operational management and provide strong financial leadership.

Responsibilities:

– Provide proactive / unsolicited consultation, interpretation and education of complex operational matters to various departmental leaders used to drive business decisions.

– Must work across organizational boundaries and all levels of the company to achieve plant and corporate objectives.

– Collaborates with General Manager, accountants and HR to explain results, make improvements, manage projects, identify inefficiencies, understand operations and lead the development of complex analysis.

– Monitor and implement plant internal controls (in conjunction with corporate policies) as necessary to ensure reporting integrity, safeguard company assets, and identify risks.

– Analyze variances and communicate explanations to management with recommended actions.

– Analyze the organization’s production and pack programs to ensure profitability.

– Populate Tenergy with current CoGen strategy.

– Prepare reports for CoGen in accordance with IESO requirements.

– Prepare a weekly packing line schedule that optimizes profitability and ensure adherence to schedule during harvest.

– Monitor PRIVA system daily while in growing season.

– Monitor alarms and ensure that a follow up text is sent to ensure that the problem is corrected.

– Respond to customer for planning, shipping and any non-conformances found including communicating corrections.

– Implement improvement plans based on non-conformances found both internally and at customer.

– Ensuring all latest customer specs and information are known, available and being followed.

– Responsible for purchasing activities.

– Food Safety / Health & Safety management representative.

– Communicate with outside agencies regarding visits, audits or any other external requests knowing that other departments may be required to participate.

– Assist in the negotiation of company contracts and follow up of tasks listed in contracts requiring attention.

– Responsible for technical planning and implementation on projects requested by General Manager.

– Lead in applying for grants wherever possible, all grant processes to be approved by General Manager.

– Provide backup coverage for the General Manager when necessary.

– Create and implement the annual planting and cleanout plan, assist as necessary with any items falling behind schedule.

– Responsible for the training requirements for all employees and maintenance of training records.

– Address IT issues as they arise, knowing that much of these issues will require outside contractors.

– Provide accounting for carbon tax requirements as per the latest government guidelines to the accounting department.

Qualifications:

– College or University degree in technical field.

– Knowledge of budgeting and forecasting techniques as well as proficiency with operations financial analysis and projection.

– Good planning and organizational skills.

– Strong analytical skills.

– Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports.

– Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries from the business.

Grower

We are looking to expand our team with a Grower to implement and manage crop strategies.

Responsibilities:

– Fully responsible for management and growing of crop.

– Dedicated to working with plants and in a greenhouse environment. 

– Design and manage greenhouse climate for the whole season, and daily monitoring.

– Management of crop cultivation during different crop stages.

– Manage irrigation in hydroponic system, irrigation monitoring time by time.

– Fertilizer and plant nutrition management, sample results analysis and adjustment.

– Solid greenhouse pest control IPM experience. Strong biological pest control skill.

– Problem solving of any issues with the crop. 

– Data collection and analysis for greenhouse environment, plant registration, pest control record, labor speed, quality and crop trials.

– Cost analysis and savings.

– Good team player working alongside the General Manager, HR, IPM and Labor Manager.

– Experience with greenhouse computer software systems.

– Experience with Greenhouse Food Safety Audits and Healthy Safety.

Qualifications:

– College or University Education with Agricultural or Horticultural degree required.

– 3-4 years commercial greenhouse grower experience required.

– Ability to work in a team environment

Assistant Grower

We are looking to expand our team with an Assistant Grower that will work with the Head Grower to implement and manage crop strategies.

Responsibilities:

– Work with head grower to implement and manage crop strategies

– Monitor climate, heating, ventilation, shading and irrigation strategies

– Analyze water testing results and determine nutrient strategies for crop

– Monitor production and quality

– Manage integrated pest management team

Qualifications:

– Degree or Diploma in Horticulture, Plant Science or a related field

– 1-2 years growing experience

– Ability to work in a team environment

Labour Supervisor

We are looking to expand our team with an Assistant Grower that will work with the Head Grower to implement and manage crop strategies.

Responsibilities:

– Works with Farm Operations Manager and Grower to execute day to day plant strategy.

– Develops and follows a labour strategy. 

– Assist in the development and implementations of farm safety and bio-security procedures.

– Hire and train workers.

– Maintain financial and operational records. 

– Participates in the operation of relevant machinery and equipment pertaining to the crop.

– Co-ordinate, assign and supervise the work of general farm workers, harvesting labourers and packing process. 

– Supervise, monitor and enforce procedures to maintain crop health and welfare.

– Supervise and oversee growing and other crop-related operations.

– Reports to the General Manager.

Qualifications:

– High School Diploma

– Previous Labour Supervisor experience is an asset. 

– Ability to work in a team environment

Human Resources

We are looking to expand our Human Resources department with an individual who will work with the Labour Manager to ensure staffing needs are met and handle day to day HR functions.

Responsibilities:

– Payroll.

– Act as a back-up to the controller, prepare vendor cheques and follow the procedures of verification process before payment and file after payment.

– Apply for LMIA’s and Work Permits. 

– Post, maintain and monitor job postings for various positions and arrange interviews.

– Work with various agencies to recruit offshore workers and arrange travel to the greenhouse. 

– Manage employee’s files, interact with employees and provide assistance where necessary.  

– Work as a direct team with the Labor Manager for daily issues.

– Focus on building relationships with your team to ensure smooth transition of information.

– Responsible to promptly prepare information in the event of audits. 

– All Food Safety, bio safety and Health and Safety protocols must be followed.

– Manage all COVID policies, procedures and ensure paperwork is up to date including vaccinations for all employees. Arrange for isolation/quarantine when necessary.

Qualifications:

– High School Diploma

– Previous Human Resources experience an asset

– Ability to work in a team environment

Accounting

We are looking to expand our Accounting department with an individual who will report to the Controller and assist with day to day Accounting responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

– Payroll, A/P and A/R

– Must work across organization boundaries and all levels of the company to achieve plant and corporate objectives

– Collaborates with General Manager, controller, HR and senior management

– Analyze variances and communicates explanations to management with recommended actions

– Shares best practices across finance team, e.g. process improvements, financial modeling and procedures changes- Assist with month ends, year ends, and required bank reports

Qualifications:

– Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.

– 1+ years’ experience in a similar position.

– Experience with Sage is beneficial.

– Ability to work in a team environment.

Cogen Operator

We are looking for a Cogen Operator to operate and perform maintenance on engines and greenhouse systems.

Responsibilities:

– Extensive off and on-site training on both the CHP engines and greenhouse systems

– Daily inspections and maintaining log sheets

– Performing general service and maintenance; key contact for technical issues

– Attending to system alarms

– Understanding and using the greenhouse controls platform

– Managing spare part inventory and supplies

– General daily operations of the facility

– Working with heating, pumps, motors, frequency drives, boilers, piping, valves, heat exchangers, radiators, tanks, sensors, relays, batteries, computers, electrical, electronics.

Qualifications:

– 1+ Years’ experience in a similar position 

– General engine and mechanics knowledge

– Experience with cogeneration engines would be considered an asset. 

– Ability to work in a team environment.

Maintenance

We are looking to fill a Maintenance position responsible for operating and maintaining the greenhouse systems.

Responsibilities:

– Daily inspections and maintaining log sheets

– Performing general service and maintenance; key contact for technical issues

– Attending to system alarms

– Understanding and using the greenhouse controls platform

– Managing spare part inventory and supplies

– General daily operations of the facility

– Working with heating, irrigation, ventilation, curtains, scissor karts, sorting equipment, automated stacking, and bagging machines; pumps, motors, frequency drives, boilers, piping, valves, heat exchangers, radiators, tanks, sensors, relays, batteries, computers, electrical, electronics.

Qualifications:

– 1+ Years of Maintenance Experience. 

– Greenhouse maintenance experience would be considered an asset. 

– Ability to work in a team environment.

Greenhouse General Labour

Under Sun Acres is looking for full time general farm greenhouse labour. Multiple openings available. Must be available for 50hrs a week including weekends. Job requirements include planting, crop work, harvesting, packing and post-harvest clean up. Work conditions are fast paced, repetitive, heavy handing, physically demanding and extended periods of standing. Work site indoors/outdoors and hot/cold environments. You must have your own transportation. No experience or education required. Minimum wage of $15/Hour is offered plus performance bonus.
